Where can I find the names and positions of Augusta City Council?

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin in city council | 1 Comment »

I am looking for the names and positions of the members of the Augusta GA City Council. Anyone know where I can find that information?

p.s. – I went to the augusta GA website and found nothing.

There’s this really strange thing we used to do in the olden times, before we had the internet. We would look up phone numbers, call them, ask questions until we found what we needed to know or the name and number of another party who could help, until we finally got to the person we needed to talk to. We spoke to actual people. We kept asking questions until we found what we needed or the kerosene ran out in the lamp, whichever came first. Weird system, huh?

how to go about applying/joining/campaigning for a City Council or School Board position?

Posted on June 24th, 2010 by admin in city council | 1 Comment »

I was wondering how to go about applying/joining/campaigning for a City Council or School Board position? Who do I contact to submit an application? Any help would be appreciated.

I am interested in this question too. I am not sure where to start. I have been told volunteering, toastmasters, lions, etc. Things like that to get involved and get my name out…any advise on that aspect of it? Have you been involved already? If yes, how did you start?
Thanks and good luck!

Can apply for a council house in Birmingham City council, if I am a member of Sandwell Council?

Birmingham has an open register and you should be able to apply (see link below).

You may have a long wait before anything comes available as the Council does have a list of priorities – the link will show you these as well.

Voters in North Carolina approve a new state constitution, after which the Ocean City Council passes new ordin?

Posted on June 18th, 2010 by admin in city council | 3 Comments »

Voters in North Carolina approve a new state constitution, after which the Ocean City Council passes new ordinances, the North Carolina Department of Parks and Recreation issues new rules, and the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce sends out new instructions. Sources of law do not include

a. instructions issued by the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce.
b. ordinances passed by the Ocean City Council.
c. rules issued by the North Carolina Department of Parks and Recreation.
d. state constitutions passed by popular vote.

(a) A city’s Chamber of Commerce is not a governmental body with the authority to pass laws.

The state constitution is obviously law, and so are the ordinances passed by the city council. The state dept. of parks and recreation also has the power to issue regulations that have the force of law (administrative law). But the Chamber of Commerce "instructions" do not have the force of law.

How many of you will pay attention to City Council and local votes in November?

Posted on June 15th, 2010 by admin in city council | 5 Comments »

I hate to admit it, but I usually pay attention to the federal, and to some extent the state legislative races, but not to the ‘trivial’ city council and board of supervisor races. This year I am going to take the time to research where people stand in the local races. From Maywood’s prohibition of traffic tickets so’s not to catch illegals, to Hazelton’s strict anti-illegal immigrant laws, I have learned that the LOCAL politicians are very important.

Cook County IL, (including Chicago) is about to vote on being a sanctuary city, and the proponants of that motion think it will pass easily. I used to live there, and I’m telling you, people relied on Daly and didn’t pay much attention to anything else.

Will you pay attention to local elections in voting, now? And has the illegal immigration issue made a difference to you in this?

It’s started to happen that cities and municipalities are trying to establish themselves policy-wise in direct opposition to standing federal laws regarding immigration. If push comes to shove,
and the state governors have to act, they may find themselves disincorporated, which in some cases might not be such a bad idea.
The ’sanctuary city’ thing sure sounds like a grand humanitarian gesture, but it’d be a lot more humanitarian if the same do-gooders and sympathizers were themselves to travel to the troubled countries and get at the heart of the problem.
If other countries weren’t such wrecks, there’d be no illegal immigration to begin with.

I think we should welcome legal immigrants, but legal immigrants only. Illegal immigration is a big problem, and the solution to it all will likely be complex, and drawn-out. They have this thing where towns and cities can be ’sister cities’ with their basket-case counterparts, and provide school help etc. where it’s really needed.

At the end of the day, we’re stuck tolerating whatever these people decide. I just hope that there’s less grandiose posturing,
and more concrete assistance given to countries that need it, so that the cycle of cheap-labor/illegal immigration is broken.

Concrete, yes, concrete, that liquid rock magical stuff-thingie.
You can make entire buildings out of it, like hospitals, and schools, and what’s more you can build those just about anywhere, like in Mexico and points beyond, where they’re needed. But again, our ‘city fathers’ and others who’ve become
quite friendly with the illegals are to thank/blame for whatever outcome finally manifests itself out of all of this. I think failing budgets will finally decide the matter, when cities start to go broke because of pursuing failed policies, the voters will stand up and say ‘no mas’ en masse, and at that point they’ll have to give up some of their more egregious bullshit…like welcoming half of Mexico to move in.

New Orlean City Council Shuts Down Public Housing Debate

Posted on June 9th, 2010 by admin in city council | 25 Comments »

The New Orleans City Council has unanimously voted to move ahead with the demolition of 4,500 units of public housing. Under the plan, the city’s four largest public housing developments will be razed and replaced with mixed-income housing. Hundreds of people were turned away from the City Council meeting with pepper spray and tasers. Many were arrested.
