I have only read one manga book – the first one in the Magister Negi Magi series by Ken Akamatsu.?
Was this a good place to start? Can anyone suggest other Manga series that would be good for a newbie to read?
The post apocolyptic master piece "Akira" by Otomo Katsuhiro is THE classic manga series. It is very expensive (around £25 per volume for brand new copies of the full A4 size from Dark horse comics) to collect all 6 volumes but it is worth every penny, trust me, you’ll go back to them time and again (also watch the fantastic film version by Otomo himself!
Tezuka Osamu is often called the godfather of Manga as his influence has been felt in almost every Japaneese comic since the early 1960’s. Start with his most famous creation "Astro Boy" which comes in a total of 22 volumes ( I get my screen name from Astro’s Japaneese name by the way!) and go from there. To learn more go to: http://en.tezuka.co.jp/
The Samarai series "Lone Wolf And cub" by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima is a must for anyone starting to read manga. It cocerns the adventures of Ogami Itto and his small boy Ogami Diagoro, ther quest for revenge and the trail of death the leave in their wake. With it’s very traditional Japanese drawing style and incredable atention to historical accuaracy, this 28 volume set from Dark Horse Comics never fails to amaze the reader.
I am reading Barefoot Gen (publihed by Last Gasp of San Francisco) at the moment about the real life experiences of artist Neiji Nakawa’s survival of the atomic bomb that was dropped on hiroshima. It is written from the childs point of view and give a rare insite into the horror of this event in history.
If you like Barefoot Gen (or "Adolf" by Tezuka) then I would recomend an American comic called "Maus" by Art Spiegelman published in complete form by Penguin Books. It is about the second world war and depict Jewish mice being persecuted by German cats!
Having read these classics you will find it easier to pick what you like in futre. You may like to have a look at Dark Horse’s web site. Hope this has been helpful to you, happy reading!

opportunities of magister in english literature?
hello i really need your help if it’s possible.I keep struggling to find what i can do (further short-term study of another fiel,or jobs) with a magister degree in english literature. Please any suggestion.I’m in a dire need of your help
If this question is typical of the standard of your English I very much doubt you’d be up to a masters’ (not magister) degree. You can’t capitalise, spell or punctuate correctly. Sorry if you find this offensive, but you need to be able to use the language correctly yourself if you’re to have a realistic chance of a masters. If you already have a masters, and it’s hard to tell from your question, then academic standards have sunk, sunk, sunk.

Is there an authority in the Uk that can tell me what my German degree is equivalent to?
I have a degree from a European university, it is called a Kurzstudium and is taken after 6-7 years of university study. After 4 years you take something roughly equivalent to a BA, then go on to do a Magister (which I think is a Masters?) – the Kurzstudium is identical to the Magister except it is a year shorter and there isn’t a Thesis. Any ideas, thanks!
Wow! Thanks to everyone so far – the reason I need to know is that I am applying for a job that needs at least a BA Hons (or equivalent) in the subject I studied.
Hi. I am from Australia and had to have my results (high school) translated into the English equivilent for entry into university this year. The name of the authority is NARIC. – their website is www.naric.org.uk – all the universities use this to compare grades and qualifications.
You can phone them for free to get an idea of what your qualifications are equivilent to OR if you email me – I sneakily found a password to access the system online! They sell their subscriptions to Universities to access the system so they can enrol international students… I don’t mind sharing. It was quite easy to find by googling and it works!
