Is running for city council worth it?

I’m considering running for city council in a very small suburban city. It only cost $10 and I have to get 50 signatures. Is being a city councilperson worth it? I would like us to have more parks and better streetscaping, but other than that, I have no huge qualms about how things are being run. The seat is open though, and I’d like to get involved in my community.

It’s worth it if you truly care for your city, and hope to make it a nicer place to live.

If you see it as a stepping stone to higher office, you’ll be disappointed.

Max, if your articulate answers are any indication I believe you’d thrive on a city council. You seem to have a well-grounded pragmatic view of politics and how government runs, so go for it! But during the election leave out the part about streaking with the girlfriend; the oldsters voting block might not get it (lol.)
