New Orlean City Council Shuts Down Public Housing Debate

The New Orleans City Council has unanimously voted to move ahead with the demolition of 4,500 units of public housing. Under the plan, the city’s four largest public housing developments will be razed and replaced with mixed-income housing. Hundreds of people were turned away from the City Council meeting with pepper spray and tasers. Many were arrested.

    @thadd05 what kind …
    @thadd05 what kind of student pays 5000 back in taxes? sounds a little fishy. and avoid the elderly? what the are you talking about? first off, the city didnt just tare down the projects, THEY REBUILT THEM NICER. second off those elderly you are talking about have been living on welfare for generations, you think the government just put them on the street? you need to wake up man because you really have no idea what you are talking about.

  11. thadd05 Says:

    @noladem504 lol no …
    @noladem504 lol no not realy i had to pay federal and state taxes back for the last 4 years and I have lived in the 17thwd of New Orlans.and at least theay are working i know frist hand that New Orleans public education system is not that good and a lack of an education can operss people. by the way nice job avoiding the elderly. by the way how can i get my ton of money bc i paid$ 5000 back this year.

  12. noladem504 Says:

    @thadd05 LOL pay …
    @thadd05 LOL pay all your taxes? you mean that your job takes taxes out of your check then at the end of the year you get a ton of money from the irs for being a student? LOL try filing a 1099 every year and see what thats like. you are young and naive. these ppl dont pay taxes and most dont have decent jobs or they wouldnt even be allowed to live there. you need to come down here and get your hard knock education because you are clueless

  13. thadd05 Says:

    @noladem504 lol i …
    @noladem504 lol i am a collage student who pays all of his expinces out of my own bank accont no one in my family lives on the “governments dime” there is no govrenments dime it is the tax payers dime. lots of thease people work tax payers lots of thease people where elderly the elderly had been taxpayers. and just because you live in da city dose not give you the right to say thease people cant come back home.

  14. noladem504 Says:

    @thadd05 they paid rent its their house? LOL is that a joke? first off, if they are paying rent, THEN ITS NOT THEIR HOUSE. second of all these ppl pay NO taxes. that y they live in the projects. you must be a child who still lives at home with mommy or on the governments dime. most of all, I live in new orleans. I have to deal with this crap and i think the council made the right decision. these projects everywhere in our city are giving us a bad name and hurting our tourism

  24. marshallallensmith Says:

    FEMA Would have …
    FEMA Would have helped but they don’t usually give to people that the goverment has been supporting for the last 30 plus years. If they would devote halve the time they spend and crying into something constructive then maybe they would get somewhere.
