How do you get married in City hall?
My bf and I both agreed that when we get married we want a simple "city Hall" marrige and then a huge party and more money to spend on our honeymoon, since we’ll be paying for it all on our own. But what steps do you have to take to get married in City Hall? City hall, Philadelphia, PA, that is. It’s a personal choice from both of us and I just want to know how it all works.
Application Requirement: Both parties to a marriage should appear in person to obtain the license.
Fees: $40 – Cash Only.
• There are no exceptions or waivers to the license fee.
• No extensions or refunds are made once the license is issued.
Waiting Period: 3 days. There is a three day waiting period from the day the license is issued until it can be used.

Blood Tests: No test.
After your purchase your license , and wait the time listed above then you can go to the JP during their hours of operation (for marriages…you will want to call first).

Go to the city desk and get your license first. There is usually a waiting period in most states except Nevada. They will have the details so you can schedule a judge to perform the ceremony. Judges have busy schedules; you can’t just run in and say, "Let’s do this."

Usually anymore, it’s the County Clerk’s office that performs weddings like this, not a judge. This is the same office you go to get the marriage license. So call or go by and ask. I don’t know the law in PA, but in my city the Clerk can legally charge for this service but never actually does. The Clerk who agrees to perform it will have to tell you the details.
