Godparents in the religious context are meant to help guide your child in the ways of your religion. You must carefully choose people you feel are best capable for sharing the values that you want your child to grow up with. Look for people you admire and trust who will care for your child if something were to happen to you. Godparents are often close friends or family members. They are not there to absolve you of your responsibilities as parents. The teaching and guidance of children is one of a parents life responsibilities.
